Sunday 2 October
Match week 2 arrived and the Wizerdesses where in high spirits after their emphatic victory overRushmoor. With the home fans in buoyant mood and the club house serving a continental breakfast made the referee very happy.
The 1st qtr saw Whitton pressing high up the pitch with organised passing and it was clear that this was a well drilled side with 2 players who clearly had an eye for goal.
Player of the match Hope was tested continuously until they broke through Esher's defence with a long ball and slotted home. 0 1 Whitton.
From the start of the 2nd qtr it was clear that Esher was facing a tough team and it was time for Annabel to take control of the situation. She was still dropping back to assist the defence and Whitton squeezing a ball into the net to make it 0 2 made her angry! Que trademark runs. A couple of tests for the Whitton keeper and sure enough, Goal! 1 2. Lets go Esher! Whitton where unfazed and quickly restored their 2 goal
advantage 1 3. Halftime.
On a day where Esher was without Ellena and Coach Ian It was up to Lyn and Mark to find a way back into the game. Charlie moved to the left of defence to cut off the supply from Whitton's best player. Wave after wave of attacks came but Charlie was equal to the challenge. No goals conceded and it was all to play for in the 4th qtr.
Both teams are fired up for victory. Whitton kept trying and won corner after corner but the Esher defence held firm and their hard work paid off. A long ball from the goalkeeper found Annabel in midfield. 5 yards of fury, A side step to cut back to her right foot and she was already
running back in celebration as the back of the net bulged wildly with the force of the ball. 2-3. She wasn't done. With a beautifully timed interception on the halfway line she smashed the ball towards the goal and the Whitton keeper was at 6’s & 7’s. They stood shocked as the ball crossed the line. 3-3. The ref thought it had deflected off a Whitton defender but on review it must be given to Annabel. Well done on another hat trick. Sorry you can’t keep the ball though. Unfortunately Esher hearts where broken with a quick reply from Whitton. 3-4. It was nearly 5 but they missed a penalty in the dying moments.
Thanks to everyone who came and I hope you enjoyed this latest instalment.
